後遺症電影已看的包括《Grease》(上一次看應是10年前了吧)、《Saturday Night Fever》、《High School Musical》、88年版原裝Hairspray, 排隊中的有《Grease 2》、She's the Man ......

Donald Kwan

AROHAMIBO:

Donald Kwan

Donald Kwan 說...

Arohamibo:

You find the movie much more moving than the novel because what Ang Lee filmed is NOT the novel, but the screenplay. Scriptwriters Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana have tremendously elaborated Annie Proulx's very short story into more three-dimensional, beefing up the characters of the two wives.

I don't find Brokeback Mountain as moving as many claimed but if you are comparing the movie to the story, your credits should go to the scriptwriters, not Ang Lee.

shangri_la:

Sorry about I cannot agree with you. Of coz the BBM script is amazingly adapted from a short novel make BBM more 3-dimension, but it's Ang Lee, he transoform a simple story about relationship, to a beautiful classic romance.... some just two lines on the script, Lee just let them become a more than five minutes 細膩 scene, that's his achievement.

shangri_la 說...

Donald,

I am not trying to discredit Ang Lee here. However, movie-making is a collective effort and it is important to distinguish who is responsible for what. My point is there is a huge leap between the novel and the movie, particularly in the case of BBM because the original story is like only about sixty pages and much what you see in the movie is actually not in the novel but in the screenplay. When you are comparing the movie to the novel as Arohamibo did, it is the script writer's credit for the expanding the novel.

I am sure Ang Lee's contribution to the success of the movie is immeasurable and he deserved all the accolades he received but you can only judge it in the context of the screenplay, not the novel.

By the way, I meant to tell you the other day that when I was going through Custom during my flight back to Boston from Montreal, guess who was standing behind me? Brendan Fraser. He looks just like what you see in the movie, except he has thinning (balding) hair. :-)
